This web site is the result of splitting out some of the information from our original web site Jack & Anita Mauldin Boer Goats and moving it here along with new content. This new site will focus more on the What, How and Why of our raising Boer goats on our farm in Ector, Texas.
We have been breeding Boer goats since 1997 and slowly determined the type of Boer we wanted to raise with justification for our decisions. We have also evolved our management strategy to aid in the development of Boers that are hardier with less maintenance required. We have learned lessons about treating many common health issues and diseases. These will have more specific documentation and videos in this web site describing them to our readers
We are also consolidating some of our articles and updating the content from the original web site to this site so they are easier for visitors to find and the information will be better organized.
We believe we should focus on breeding Boer goats for features needed to produce better, hardier meat goats and not features related to making them better looking to a show judge but have little to no positive impact on producing better meat goats. We certainly are not experts in breeding meat goats. We have not been trained in that field. We are not trying to change any Boer associations or other breeders to think the way we do. The main focus of this web site to to explain to our potential customers the following:
- What our breeding strategy is
- Justifying why we are doing it this way
- Describing how we are implementing the strategy, the management we use and how we treat the most common diseases and health issues
- Occasionally write articles related to issues that seem to be currently important in the industry
We hope this will be beneficial to visitors to our site. We will continue to maintain and update the original web site and have links between them for easy navigation between them.
